Science

In 2002, the new science facility was opened in St Martin School.  The facility, located in the Cottrell Center adjacent to the main school building, has a fully equipped instructional classroom and science lab.  The support and generosity of school families and staff, St Martin School Parent Teacher group, St Martin Parish and local industry made the science facility possible

In grade 6 science the focus is on earth science. Students often become aware of the environment around them at this level, and the content is meant to stimulate intellectual curiosity.

In grade 7 the focus is on life science. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for the biology/life sciences courses often taken in high school

In grade 8 the content standards focus is physical sciences. Again, the course is designed to prepare students for the physics and chemistry courses in the later high school years.

The Program

Science Instruction at St Martin school provides multiple opportunities to make connections with other content areas. Reading, writing, mathematics and speaking skills are needed to learn and do science. These connections reinforce subject learning in all core areas. The study of science disciplines the minds of students and the benefits of intellectual training are realized after schooling when the details of the science may be forgotten.
