Development
What is development?
Development is the process by which we obtain the resources we need to provide quality Catholic education for St. Martin children. Specifically, it encompasses obtaining cash contributions from parents and other sources, bringing in resources through coordinated fund raising efforts, and the pooling and use of human resources — dedicated volunteer hours — to run our school.
Why is development activity necessary?
The staff at St. Martin is dedicated to providing the best possible education for its students. In addition to excellent academic instruction, students benefit from athletics, technology, hands-on science opportunities and music. These rich educational opportunities would be impossible if not for successful development efforts.
Our tuition has remained affordable over the past several years — a reflection of our commitment to keeping our community accessible to all who wish to join it. However, the cost to educate each child significantly exceeds our per child tuition. Therefore, we are significantly dependent on our parent community to help.
Who leads the St. Martin School development effort?
St. Martin’s development effort for the 2006-07 school year will be led by: Principal Genie Florczyk, Vice Principal Diane Tyler, Development Director Christy Mar, School Advisory Council President Patricia Johnson, and Theresa Wilson from the consulting firm of Light House Blues. While this team will provide leadership and guidance, it’s the dedication and commitment of our parent population that will enable us to reach our development goals.
What kind of help is required from the parent community?
St. Martin families are asked to help with the school’s development effort in three ways:
Donate funds
through our annual appeal campaign. This is the single most effective way for
St. Martin to obtain the funding needed to educate our children. Parents’
contributions are tax-deductible, and can help close the gap between the cost
of educating each student and the tuition fees charged.
Raise funds for the school in one of the following ways:
1) After making your gift through the annual campaign, check to see if your employer offers a matching gift program. Often, employers match donations dollar-for-dollar; that can be a great help to our school!
2) Participate in school-sponsored fund raising activities. Each family will be asked to participate in a pre-specified number of fund raising activities each year.
3) Register and purchase scrip or e-scrip or School Pop
Give time to the
school through the parent participation program: All families are
required to give 30 hours of time to support school activities. That may
take the shape of volunteering in the classroom, serving on committees, or
helping to coordinate fundraising activities or grant writing efforts.
This "parent-power" is essential to our school operations.
The good news is, it's fun! We all get to know each other a little
better through these activities, and we have a lot of fund developing ways to
provide our kids the best educational environment possible.
Stay Tuned!
There will be many opportunities to help us bring in resources for our children this year.
